Tuscaloosa- The University of Alabama men’s track team will compete this weekend at the Indiana Team Classic on the campus of Indiana University in Indianapolis. This will be the second meet of the indoor season for the Tide after competing last weekend at the Kentucky Invitational.
“Our first meet of the season was a tester for this team,” head coach Harvey Glance said. “We only had a couple of days to practice after everyone got back from the Christmas break before Kentucky. This is the first time we will have had a full week of practice, so I am looking forward to see how everyone responds.”
Alabama is a very young team this season and Coach Glance was impressed with what he saw from his freshmen that competed at Kentucky. “Three freshmen really caught my eye last week: Jake Winder, Brandon Spradley and Emmanuel Bor” Glance said.
Freshman Jake Winder jumped 16’00.75” in the pole vault, which places him as the 10th best in school history.
Freshman Brandon Spradley won his heat in the 200m with a time of 21.67, faster than some world class professional athletes he faced. Spradley also turned in a great split time for the 4 x 400 relay team that finished in third place.
Freshman Emmanuel Bor finshed third in the 3,000m with a time of 8:14.28. Kentucky was the first ever indoor competition for the Kenya native.
“It will be interesting to see how these guys come back this week, “Glance said. “Its one thing to be able to perform one week, but it’s another to perform constantly throughout the season.”
“Our goal for this week is to get a little better than we were last week. I want to make sure we have some consistency.”
Events begin on Friday at the Indiana Team classic and conclude Saturday afternoon.
