- Made his Alabama debut against Lipscomb on March 29 and grounded out in his lone at-bat

- A three-year starter for coach David Griffin at Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond, Indiana
- Led his team to the Indiana high school state championship as a senior in 2004
- As a junior, he led his team with a .427 batting average
- Played in three straight Babe Ruth Baseball World Series (2002-04), winning the national championship in 2003
