TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- University of Alabama head baseball coach Jim Wells announced the 2007 baseball schedule today, which features a three-game home series with perennial power Nebraska and 24 games against teams that played in the 2006 NCAA Baseball Regionals.
"The Southeastern Conference affords us the opportunity to play good baseball teams all season long," Wells said. "We think our non-conference schedule is a good one, too. The marquee matchup is the home series with Nebraska, a team that has been to Omaha three times in the last six years."
Alabama will play 38 regular-season home games during the 2007 season. The Crimson Tide will open its slate by playing 23 of its first 25 games at Sewell-Thomas Stadium, including 14 consecutive games to open the season. In fact, Alabama will play all five non-conference series at home this season, a first in the Wells era.
Nebraska (Mar. 9-11) headlines the home, non-conference SEC slate. In addition, Alabama will also have weekend series with Georgia State (Feb. 9-11), Canisius (Feb. 16-18), Villanova (Feb. 23-25) and McNeese State (Mar. 2-4).
In addition, Alabama will play home midweek games against Troy (Feb. 14), UAB (Feb. 28), Tennessee Tech (Mar. 7), Mississippi Valley State (Mar. 20-21), Southeastern Louisiana (Apr. 11), South Alabama (Apr. 18) and Samford (Apr. 25).
Alabama will open the defense of its SEC Championship with a three-game series against Tennessee (Mar. 16-18). The Crimson Tide will also host LSU (Mar. 30-April 2), Georgia (Apr. 13-15), South Carolina (Apr. 27-29) and Arkansas (May 11-13).
The road schedule features two games in minor league ballparks and five SEC road series against Ole Miss (Mar. 23-25), Vanderbilt (Apr. 6-8), Auburn (Apr. 20-22), Florida (May 4-6) and Mississippi State (May 17-19).
The Crimson Tide will play Southern Miss (Mar. 6) in Pearl, Miss., at Trustmark Park, the home of the Mississippi Braves (Southern League). Alabama is also set to take on UAB (Apr. 4) at the Hoover Met, the home of the Birmingham Barons (Southern League).
Alabama will also play at Samford on Mar. 14.
