Following an excellent junior college career, Vargas has the size and power to make an impact in his first season in the Crimson Tide outfield this year.
SUMMER (2006):
- Played for the Wilmington (N.C.) Sharks in the Coastal Plain League
- In 41 games, he batted .189 (27-for-143) with one home run and 13 RBI. He also added 13 runs scored and four doubles.
CONNORS STATE COLLEGE (2005-06):
- A two-year starter at Connors State College for coach Perry Keith
- During his two-year career, Vargas batted .350 (137-for-391) with 26 home runs and 111 RBI
- He was a 2006 NJCAA honorable mention All-American selection
- A two-time First-Team All-Region II selection
- He was also a two-time South-Central All-District pick
- In 53 games as a sophomore, Vargas batted .353 (67-for-190) with 14 home runs and 51 RBI
- He was second on the club in hitting and led the team in home runs and RBI
- Added 39 runs scored, eight doubles and two triples
- In 62 games as a freshman, he batted .348 (70-for-201) with 12 home runs and 60 RBI
- He was second on the team in hitting and led the team in home runs and RBI
- He also added 56 runs scored, 19 doubles and one triple
- Also played in the New York Collegiate League in the summer of 2005, where he was named to the NYCL All-Star Team after hitting .295 with two home runs and 42 RBI
- Led the NYCL with those 42 runs and 17 doubles
- Drafted in the 25th round by the Baltimore Orioles in June, 2005

- A two-time All-City selection
