Due to a rash of injuries, Rhoden was thrust into the role as the Crimson Tide’s starting catcher, where he is expected to open the season. The Crimson Tide has only three healthy catchers on its roster.
SUMMER (2006):
- Played this summer for the Maryland Orioles in the Cal Ripken, Sr., Collegiate League
- He helped the Orioles to the 2006 AAABA World Championship in Johnstown, Penn., the team’s third straight AAABA championship
- Played on the same team with Bama teammates Vincent DiFazio and Kyle Moore
- In 26 games, he batted .295 (28-for-95) with one home run and 12 RBI
- Added three doubles, one triple, one stolen base and scored 12 runs
- He was named the “Player of the Week” on July 2, after hitting .421 and had a league-high eight hits and six RBI over the course of the week
FRESHMAN (2006):
- Appeared in 60 games and made 52 starts as a true freshman
- He batted .285 (57-for-200) with one home run and 24 RBI
- Added 31 runs scored, five doubles, two triples and one stolen base
- He concluded the season with 14 multi-hit games and five-multi RBI games
- Played in 28 SEC games and made 24 starts for the 2006 SEC Champions
- He hit .307 (27-for-88) in league play with 13 RB
- Also added 13 runs scored, three doubles, two triples and one stolen base
- Posted five-game hitting streak from Feb. 13-19, where he batted .421 (8-for-19)
- He slugged his first career home run and finished with season-high three RBI in UA’s 7-6 win over Birmingham Southern on Feb. 28
- He went 2-for-4 with two RBI in 4-2 loss to No. 1 Mississippi State on April 2
- Posted season-best 11-game hitting streak from April 15-May 5, where he batted .442 (19-for-43) with eight RBI
- Went went 4-for-8 in final two games at No. 20 LSU on April 15-16
- He went 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI in Bama’s 14-7 win over No. 16 Vanderbilt on April 22
- Tied UA single-game record with two sacrifice bunts in 6-5 win over Vanderbilt on April 23, as UA swept three-game series
- Went 2-for-5 with double and matched his season best with three RBI as Alabama beat Auburn 9-1 on April 30 to clinch series win
- He was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI in series opener at Tennessee on May 18
- Went 2-for-4 and scored two runs in the Crimson Tide’s 13-1 win over Jacksonville State in the 2006 NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional
PREP:
- A 2005 graduate of Paul W. Bryant High School in Tuscaloosa
- A two-year starter in baseball for coach John Cameron
- In his two years at Bryant HS, Rhoden batted .434 with 11 home runs and 91 RBI
- As a prep senior, Rhoden batted .421 with seven home runs and 56 RBI
- Led his team to a second straight area title and berth in Class 6A state playoffs
- As a junior, he batted .448 with four home runs and 35 RBI
- Led his team to the Class 5A state playoffs in their inaugural season, before losing in the state semifinals to eventual champion Charles Henderson HS of Troy
- He played his freshman and sophomore year at Central HS in Tuscaloosa
- Member of three straight American Legion state championship teams (2003-05) that advanced to the Southeast Regionals.
- The 2003 squad missed the American Legion World Series by one game after losing in the title game
- His American Legion coach was John Rushing
