SACRAMENTO, Calif.??The Alabama men’s track and field team had a rough day on Thursday at the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif. Chauncey Harris competed in two rounds of the 100m dash and Abraham Kutingala began the 10,000m run but was unable to finish the race.
Kutingala started the 10,000m run, but a little over 7:30 into the race, came off the track with stomach pains and was unable to finish the race. Kutingala was an SEC scorer in the event, finishing third at the SEC Outdoor Championships.
“It was a tough day for us,” Alabama head coach Harvey Glance said. “Abraham was a little sick and suffering from a stomach virus and wasn’t able to perform well and had to drop out of the race.”
Harris ran 10.47 in the first round of the 100m dash to advance to the semifinal round. Harris ran 10.38 in the 100m semifinal but the SEC champion failed to advance to the final of the event by just .02 seconds.
“Chauncey competed well,” Glance said. “I’m proud of him for that. I know he wanted more, but you just tip your hat to the guys who beat him and look forward to tomorrow.”
Harris will be the only Tide athlete competing on Friday, running the semifinal round of the 200m dash. Harris won his section of the event on Wednesday with a time of 20.94.
College Sports Television (CSTV) will carry two hours of live action on Friday night beginning Friday night at 7 CT. CSTV is available on satellite in the Tuscaloosa area.
