Based on their efforts during the 2006 season, the Alabama coaching staff was named the NFCA South Region Coaching Staff of the Year as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Head coach Patrick Murphy and assistant coaches Alyson Habetz and Vann Stuedeman led the Crimson Tide to their second straight College World Series appearance, the fourth in program history.
Alabama also claimed its first ever SEC Championship posting a program best 25-4 record while also rising as high as third in the country.
“It was a remarkable year considering we lost seven great seniors the year before and for the team to come back this season the way we did and win our first SEC title was truly amazing,” said Murphy. “(Assistant coaches) Aly (Habetz) and Vann (Stuedeman) were very instrumental in the recruiting of the freshman class which played a large part in our reaching the World Series again.”
The award marks the third such honor for Murphy and his staff as they were named regional Coaching Staff of the Year in 2000 and 2003.
