
Tide Golfer Named to PING All-Region Team

TUSCALOOSA ?? The Golf Coaches Association of America has announced its 2006 award winners, and the University of Alabama has a golfer among those honored.
Mark Harrell, a sophomore from Hazlehurst, Ga., has been named to the PING All-Region Team for the Southeast Region. Joining him on the Southeast Region team are Florida’s Matt Every, Billy Horschel, Brett Stegmaier and James Vargas; Georgia State’s Mark Haastrup, Georgia’s Brian Harman, Chris Kirk, Kevin Kisner, Richard Scott and Brenden Todd; South Carolina’s Erik Johansen; Jacksonville’s Russell Knox; Vanderbilt’s Luke List; UAB’s Garrett Osborn, Tennessee’s Jonathan Mount; and Jacksonville State’s Daniel Willett.
Harrell was one of two Alabama golfers who played in all 12 tournaments this past season for the Crimson Tide which advanced to the NCAA West Regional. Harrell played 36 rounds and had a 72.72 stroke average, finishing under par in four tournaments. He had two top 10 individual finishes this past season, finishing third at the University of Tennessee’s Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions with a nine-under-par finish and eighth at the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational. Harrell was Alabama’s low stroke leader as a freshman, finishing his first year in 2005 with a 73.38 stroke average in 39 rounds or 13 tournament appearances. He was a 2005 United States Amateur participant.
