13-11 in Conference USA play, giving them an at-large bid into the tournament. Southern Miss is 5-5 in its last 10 games and currently riding a two game losing streak. They are 3-1 against teams in the Tuscaloosa Regional this season, including an impressive three-game sweep of Troy March 17-19. The Golden Eagles lost to Alabama 13-3 on March 15. USM was 2-0 against in-state rival and former No. 1 Mississippi State, defeating the Bulldogs 13-6 and 6-3 on April 25 and 26. They defeated Memphis in this year's Conference USA Tournament before losing to eventual tournament champion Rice. USM was then eliminated from the tournament in a rematch against Memphis. The Golden Eagles will open up the 2006 NCAA Tournament at 2:30 Friday afternoon when they take on the Troy Trojans.
