The Alabama volleyball team is on a 10-day, three country tour of Europe. The Tide is traveling to Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovenia and will play five matches while visiting. To keep the fans informed, the Alabama players are writing daily journals about their trip of a lifetime. Due to limited internet access in Europe, some of the journals may be a couple of days late being posted.

Day 7: 5/27/06

Today was a day filled with an old castle, naughty statue and a pig knee. You may be wondering what in the world we did today, well, I am about to tell you.
It all started with breakfast at 9 am. It was the best breakfast yet. I ate sausage, toast with honey, and kiwi, but there were
about ten treys of food lined up at the buffet. Once our stomachs were full, it was time to start touring.
Pavlina and her mom Zuzana were our tour guides around Brno. The first place we walked to was Saint James' Church, the city’s; main church. We went inside to look around and tried not to disturb the two men praying. This was not only a beautiful church, but it also had a funny story behind it.
On the right side of the church, high on the building sits a statue of a naughty naked man with his rear facing out. Legend says
that when this church was being built, another church in Brno was being built as well. The builder of Saint James'Church basically offended the wrong people and he was not going to be able to finish his church.
Before he left he created this naughty statue whose rear is facing his competition, the other church being built. This naughty man is mooning the other church. That builder had some nerve and guts...and I love it! The story of the naught man was my favorite story of the day, and we heard many other stories as well.
After Saint James'Church we saw Old City Hall and then went to the Church of Saint Peter and Paul, where the naughty man is facing. We went up to the bell tower of this church, all 138 steps counted by Daisy and Finn. It was beautiful. We were so high up overlooking Brno right when the bell of the church began to ring.
When the tour was over, we went to a pub in Brno. This was the moment Coach Green had been waiting for...we ate pig knee!!! The menu consisted of pig knee and bread. It was basically the Dreamland of the Czech Republic.
Surprisingly it was good and I think everyone ate it, which is a huge thanks to Dr. Karr for feeding us pig butt last pre-season. Anyways, our stomachs were full once again, so it was time to head to the Castle of Bovzov.
This is a castle about two hours from Brno. It was a fairytale castle. We toured the entire castle and heard about the paintings, furniture and servant rooms thanks to Fet. See, we could not understand the tour guide so our entire group stayed in the back and waited for everyone to leave the room then Fet would read us the English version. The tour ended with the group staring at a picture of a ghost on the wall because the tour guide told us it was good luck. She could have been fooling around with us because we are Americans, but we smiled anyway. Honestly...we all could use a little extra good luck. When we left the castle, Crystal got the tour-guide to let her lock the door- yeah
Juice- and then we went to eat again.
When dinner was over and all the apple strudel was gone, we got on the bus for the drive home. When we got home, we quickly freshened up and went out for a little bit to see the night life in Brno. Thanks to Marketa, Michael, Michael and Jiri....we had the time of our lives. When we got home from our fun night out, we all packed our bags and fell asleep. It was a great day. Tomorrow we leave for Prague the hidden treasure of Europe. We all are anticipating this amazing city.
I certainly love Europe! -MUD
