NCAA Super Region 5: Quotes & Notes
Alabama Quotes
Head Coach Patrick Murphy
On today’s game: “What an amazing game. I don’t know how to describe it with all of the emotions going back and forth, all the emotions you could possible have in an eight inning game. Stanford has a great team and I congratulate them on their season. They have great people over there. We just want to go to the World Series representing the SEC as the conference champions.”
On getting a runner on base in the late innings: “We were talking before the last inning about how to do something different against her. After the first inning, she had just shut us down for six innings. So we were just trying to do anything to get somebody on.”
On pitcher Chrissy Owens: “I thought that Chrissy did well today and had good velocity. I said when she went in that she would either win it or lose it. She hasn’t been thrown into those types of situations very often, at least this season, but I thought that she would be okay.”
On Stanford’s comeback: “You have to give them credit. We let them have several base runners and they just pecked away at us. They didn’t roll over, that’s for sure.”
#19 Staci Ramsey ?? Senior Third Baseman
On the game-ending double play after two earlier errors:
“Sometimes you have those days. I was ready for it though, I saw out of the corner of my eye that she had taken off.”
On her emotions after the game: “Well, right now my emotions are a little bit sad because it is the last time that we get to play here. We are just excited we are going and just ready to try to take the whole thing.”
#3 Mandy Burford ?? Junior Left Fielder
On scoring in the eighth inning: “We just got really fired up that last inning and tried to bring it together in that inning. We just wanted to take anything they gave us and run with it.”
# 7 Chrissy Owens ?? Sophomore Pitcher
On coming into the game: “When games are like that you have to make sure all of your pitches are working and your defense is there. They have been all season and they were huge today. I had warmed up earlier, I just try to be ready for whenever he (Murphy) needs me.”
#2 Jordan Praytor ?? Sophomore Outfielder
On game-winning hit: “First of all, I wouldn’t have been in that situation if Mandy hadn’t stolen that base and had gotten the wild pitch. I was just relaxed and tried to put it in play. I had two strikes on me and I was just trying to make contact and get something in play.”

Stanford Quotes
Head Coach John Rittman
On this afternooon’s game: “I’m very proud of our team, coming back like that after digging that hole in the first inning. I don’t know if there are many teams in the country that could come back from something like that. I think it showed the battle and the pride that our kids have to play softball. We just had a nightmare of a first inning.”
On Alabama’s chances at the World Series:: “They have a very good team, with two solid pitchers, so they have the opportunity to do well. The coaching staff and the upperclassmen have experience there. I know from our experience, having finished third there twice, that after the first time there you change your mindset from being happy to be there to getting down to business and trying to win it all.”
On his team’s comeback effort: “I think that was just a reflection on our team. I can’t say how proud I am of them. They just have no doubt in their abilities.”
#9 Missy Penna - Freshman Pitcher
On her approach coming in behind in the game: “That first inning was a little rough, but I knew I couldn’t put down everyone.”
On pitching in a tie game: “The pressure was kind of off me as a pitcher when we tied it up. There was some pressure, but we were battling on offense and defense so I was just out there trying to do my job.”
