TUSCALOOSA ?? The Crimson Tide women’s basketball team has signed forward Nathalie Reshard, head coach Stephany Smith announced today.
“Nathalie is a tremendous athlete who has great character,” Smith said. “She has great leadership abilities and demonstrated to me that she is capable of leading and communicating with her teammates. Nathalie is a very positive person and will be a great addition to our team.”
Reshard will come to the Capstone after a successful junior college career at two schools, each with ties to the Alabama women’s basketball program.
In 2004-05, Reshard played for Seminole Community College in Sanford, Fla., under former SCC head coach and current Alabama assistant coach Lisa Nuxol. Reshard helped the Lady Raiders to a runner-up finish in the Mid-Florida Conference in her freshman season.
Last year, Reshard deepened her ties to the Tide program by playing under former Alabama star and assistant coach Brittney Ezell, who is now the head coach at Okaloosa-Walton College in Niceville, Fla. Playing under Ezell, Reshard scored 7.1 points per game and grabbed 4.0 rebounds per outing while helping the Raiders to a 20-9 campaign.
“Nathalie is a wonderful young lady and a tremendous student,” Ezell said. “She is a very driven person and we are all looking forward to seeing her play for the Crimson Tide.”
The 6-0 post player starred at Niceville High School in Niceville, Fla., under head coach Fred Hurlburt. Reshard was the team’s offensive player of the year in 2002 and 2004 and earned the sportsmanship award in 2004. She was successful in the classroom as a prep as well, earning Niceville’s Athletics/Academic award in 2004.
Reshard was also an accomplished star on the track & field team at Niceville, competing in the 400 and 800 meter events. She competed in the Florida state high school track & field championships in 2003 and 2004 in both the 400-meter dash and the 4x800 meter relay.
In addition, Reshard was active on the AAU scene, playing for the Seminole Lady Raiders under head coach Alex de la Fe. Her team earned fourth and fifth place finishes at the 2004 and 2005 AAU 19-and-under national championships.
A future business management major at the Captsone, Reshard graduated magna cum laude from Niceville High and earned her degree from Okaloosa Walton with a 3.2 grade point average.
Nathalie is the daughter of Lloyd and Terri Reshard and has two brothers, Lloyd Jr., 23 and Theron, 15.
