
Tide Men?s Track Heading to Fayetteville

The Alabama men’s track and field team moves into the championship season this week, traveling to Fayetteville, Arkansas to compete at the 2006 SEC Outdoor Championships. The Tide is looking to improve on an eighth place finish in the event last year.
Alabama’s distance runners should provide the Tide with plenty of opportunities to score. Peter Etoot has the fastest time in the 800m in the SEC this year and Titus Koeh ranks ninth in the league. Koeh will also compete in the 1,500m run and scored in the event at the championships last season.
Augustus Maiyo holds the best time in the 3,000m steeplechase and the second fastest time in the 5,000m. Abraham Kutingala ranks fifth overall in the steeple.
Jeff Fedler, Ian Rawlinson and Kevin McDonough should also compete for the Tide. Fedler will run in the 800m while Rawlinson will compete in the 1,500m.
In the field events, Steven Boozer and Jason Dixon lead the way for the Tide in the discus, ranking sixth and seventh, respectively in the event. The duo will also compete in the hammer throw for Alabama.
Grant Stone will compete in the javelin for Alabama and has the eighth best throw in the conference this season. Keith Baker will also compete in the event.
Charlie Coleman and Paul Wynn are set to compete in the long jump for UA.
Alabama has four pole vaulters scheduled to compete. Brandon Schneider has the seventh best leap in the conference this season. Cameron Nott, who is making his outdoor debut for Alabama, along with Matt Vogtner placed fifth at the indoor championships. Jeremy Protz will compete in the event as well.
Chauncey Harris and Byron Gibson lead the way for the Tide’s sprinters and hurdlers. Harris has the fifth fastest time in the SEC in both the 100m and 200m this season. Gibson holds the ninth best time in the league in the 110m hurdles and is joined by reigning SEC runner of the week Marcus Siwemuke in the event.
Michael Cooley will run in both the 200m and the 400m for Alabama.
The SEC Championships begin Thursday with the multi-events and conclude Sunday night.
