
Tide Women Conclude Competition at Drake

The Alabama women’s track and field team finished competition in the Drake Relays on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa with a trio of athletes having big finishes in showcase events.
Tahesia Harrigan, Kou Luogon and Miruna Mataoanu participated in special sections of their main events which included some of the top athletes in the world and the trio came up big.
Harrigan battled a strong head wind to win the 100m dash special, defeating several of the world’s best including Allyson Felix, who holds the world’s fastest time this year. In the 400m dash special, Luogon took third place with a personal best 52.98 second sprint. Mataoanu competed in the special section of the high jump and placed fourth with a mark of 5’11.25”.
Also for the Tide, LaTasha Pharr continued her momentum from Friday night with a second place finish in the 100m hurdles, running the event in 13.66.
Chealsea Taylor had a nice day as well for Alabama. In the high jump, Taylor finished in second place after clearing a height of 5’8.75”. The Tide freshman also finished seventh in the long jump with a leap of 18’3”.
Julia Hicks took sixth in the 1,500m run with a season best time of 4:30.10. Elizabeth Wancowicz finished 12th with a time of 4:48.81.
In the throws, Beth Mallory placed fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 181’7”. Aymara Albury came in eleventh place with a distance of 173’3”.
Alabama will have next weekend off and returns to action the following week at the SEC Outdoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
