4/28/2006 12:00:00 AM
Julia Hicks got the Alabama women’s track and field team off to a good start Thursday night at the 97th annual Drake Relays.
The Crimson Tide’s star runner ran a personal best in the 5,000m run to finish eighth with a time of 16:54.39, just a little over two seconds shy of qualifying for NCAA regionals in the event.
“That was a major personal best for Julia,” Alabama head coach Sandy Fowler said. “She’s ready to get out of the comfort zone she’s in and really drop her times a lot and compete with the people she runs against.”
The Tide will have a full day of competition at the Drake Relays on Friday beginning with the 4x100m relay.
