The Alabama swimming and diving teams both earned Academic All-American standing according to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
“I am extremely proud of how we have performed in the classroom,” Alabama head coach Eric McIlquham said. “Our priorities at Alabama are for our student-athletes to get first-rate educations and to win championships. I think both the men and the women earning above a 3.2 grade point average, while performing the way we have in the pool says we are on task.”
The Alabama men are the only team to finish in the top 15 at the NCAA Championships and figure among the top 10 schools academically as well. The Tide finished 13th at the NCAA Championships and seventh in the NCAA Division I Team Academic All-America rankings. The men’s 3.21 team grade point average was also best among all the Southeastern Conference schools.
On the women’s side of the slate, the Tide posted a 3.31 GPA, finishing 17th in the nation, second among SEC teams, trailing just South Carolina. The Tide also ranked fourth among schools that also figured in the top-35 at the NCAA Championships.
The CSCAA’s individual All-American awards are announced later in the spring.
