TUSCALOOSA ?? The University of Alabama soccer team was awarded the Community Outreach Award Monday night at the University’s annual Academic Awards Banquet.
The team participated in more than 1,000 hours of community outreach during the 2005-06 school year, work that includes time spent at Arcadia Elementary School where members of the team aided children in the classroom and took part in the school’s annual Spring Fling.
“My staff and I are proud of the efforts that the girls on this team have put forth off the field this year,” Alabama head coach Don Staley said. “It’s always worthwhile to know that the members of our team are making a difference in the community.”
Senior Allison DeLisle was honored individually for accumulating more than 2,000 hours of community outreach during her time at the Capstone.
Alabama junior Emily Pitek was also honored at the banquet for her unwavering support of the entire athletic department. Pitek was awarded with the inaugural School Spirit Award and led the audience in a big “Roll Tide” while accepting the award. Pitek has been a fixture at nearly every Crimson Tide sporting event and truly defines the spirit of the award.
Leigh Alexander was also a finalist for the Paul W. Bryant Award, the highest honor presented at the banquet and Cally Morrill was named Team MVP.
