The Alabama women’s track and field team will be well represented at the NCAA Indoor Championships this upcoming weekend as Monday night the NCAA released the lists of athletes who qualified for the championships. The Tide will have athletes competing in six individual events as well as the 4x400m relay.
“I’m pretty excited,” Alabama head coach Sandy Fowler said. “This is the most athletes I’ve had at the indoor championships that have qualified. It says a lot about our program being on the rise and of national caliber.”
The Tide’s sprinters lead the way in the running events. Tahesia Harrigan is the top seed in the 60m dash. Beau Walker is the fourth seed in the 60m hurdles while Kou Luogon and Chealsea Taylor are seeded sixth and 15th respectively in the 400m and the 200m. Alabama’s 4x400m relay squad is also the 12th seed in the competition.
In the field events, Miruna Mataoanu is seeded ninth off of her performance at the SEC Indoor Championships in the high jump. The Tide’s school record holder in the shot put, Aymara Albury, is ranked eighth in the event.
“It’s nice to have a well rounded group of running and field events,” Fowler said. “The key for all of them though will be to advance and to move up through the rounds.”
The NCAA Indoor Championships open Friday in Fayetteville, Ark.
