The Tide, coming off of their first ever trip to the NCAA tournament, is looking to continue the momentum they have coming off of last season as well as trying to fill some holes left by graduation.
“For us as a staff, we have certain things we want to see and questions we want answered,” Alabama head coach Judy Green said. “We want to see good execution and a good team effort.”
With the graduation of Jessica Yearout, Green is pleased with the way both Amy Pauly and Mary Beth Moore have been competing for the libero position.
“They have been battling it out the whole spring,” Green said. “We still have a lot of time to go. But I am pleased with the way they have come in on their own and taken extra reps. They are taking more of an ownership of the team and I think the team will only get better because of that.”
This weekend will also mark the first time that the Tide’s two red-shirt freshmen will get a chance to compete.
“This will be the first opportunity for Brooks Webster and Christie McKee to compete in a match for us,” Green said. “Brooks has made enormous strides in practice moving to the outside hitter position. But now it is time for her to put that together against other competition.”
Overall, so far this spring Green has been pleased with the way the Tide has practiced.
“We are still trying to work on some holes in our passing game and we want to continue to try and build on our defense because that is what led us to be successful last year,” Green said. “But I like where this team is right now.
