TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- For the second time in her career, Alabama’s Natalie McElveen has been named SEC Player of the Week.
McElveen posted a 2-0 record last week in singles including the match-clinching win Sunday to give the Tide a 4-3 upset win over No. 22 Michigan.
Playing at No. 6 singles, she won the final two sets in dramatic fashion against Michigan’s Allie Shafner to help lead the Tide to victory. McElveen entered a second set tiebreaker knowing the match rested solely on her shoulders. Already down a set, she won the first three points of the tiebreaker before Shafner evened things up. But McElveen won the final four points to force a third and final set that she won 6-3.
McElveen also earned a win Saturday in the Tide’s win over Boston. She defeated Cori Lefkowith 4-6, 6-4, 1-0.
