
Tide Golfers Collect Another Top Five Team Finish

Alabama sophomore Mark Harrell finished eight at two under par for the tournament. Harrell carded round scores of 69-72-73/214, shooting one over par in the final round on the par 72 Forest Heights Country Club. His teammate Gator Todd also shot one over Sunday but made a five spot jump in the standings, going from 22nd after two rounds on Saturday to finish T-17th. He shot 76-69-73/218. A stroke back was Alabama freshman Matthew Swan who finished T-19th after carding rounds of 76-73-70/291, shooting two under in his final round. Max Alverio finished T-53rd (79-71-76/226), and Stewart Whitt rounded out Alabama’s scoring. He shot 77-76-76/229 to finish T-63rd.
Michigan State’s Matt Harmon won the individual championship, finishing the tournament at nine-under par and carding 68-69-70/207 to finish two strokes ahead of North Carolina’s Robert Riesen (70-71-68/209). North Carolina claimed the team championship, finishing seven under par (291-278-288/857) and shooting even par in the final round. Florida was second (859) at five under par.
All the rest of the teams in the 15-team field finished over par. Kentucky was third (865), followed by Auburn (871), Alabama (298-285-292/875), a three way tie for sixth between Minnesota, North Carolina State and Michigan State (876), at 9th Tennessee (877), then Augusta State (880), South Carolina (883), LSU (887), tied at 13th Ohio State and host Georgia Southern (890), and at 15th, Toledo (915).
Alabama returns to tournament play March 26-28 (Sunday through Tuesday) at Hootie at Bulls Bay at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awnedaw, South Carolina. The tournament is part of a fundraiser for a charity foundation sponsored by the band Hootie and the Blowfish.
