Though most of the Alabama women’s track and field team will take this weekend off, head coach Sandy Fowler will have four of her athletes competing in seven events at the Virginia Tech Last Chance Qualifier in Blacksburg on Saturday.
Tahesia Harrigan, LaTasha Pharr, Chealsea Taylor and Beth Mallory will all be trying to improve their marks for the upcoming NCAA Championships.
“I think the Virginia Tech meet will be low-key, less pressure than the SECs which should allow our athletes to really perform,” Fowler said. “The track is fast and there have been numerous qualifiers in all the events at the meets they have hosted this year.”
Harrigan will be looking to improve on her long jump (20-3) which she set at the SEC Indoor Championships. Taylor will be looking to lower her time in the 200m as well as qualify for nationals in the high jump.
Mallory will be trying to solidify her spot in the weight throw and shot put while LaTasha Pharr will be looking to move up in both the 60m hurdles and the triple jump.
The Tide will travel to Fayetteville, Ark the following weekend for the NCAA Championships.
