
Men's Basketball Selected to NCAA Tournament

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama Men’s Basketball team was selected this afternoon to its fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament. The Tide, seeded 10th in the Oakland Regional, will meet 7th seeded Marquette on Thursday in San Diego, California. If Alabama wins, they would meet the winner of UCLA and Belmont on Saturday. Alabama coach Mark Gottfried was an assistant at UCLA for eight years including 1995 when the Bruins won the NCAA Championship.
Memphis is the number one seed in the Oakland bracket. They will meet 16th seed Oral Roberts in the first round. Other first round games include (8) Arkansas vs. (9) Bucknell; (5) Pittsburgh vs. (12) Kent State; (4) Kansas vs. (13) Bradley; (6) Indiana vs. (11) San Diego State; (3) Gonzaga vs. (14) Xavier; (7) Marquette vs. (10) Alabama; and (2) UCLA vs. (15) Belmont. First round games will be held Thursday and Friday and second round games will be Saturday and Sunday. Four teams will advance to the regional in Oakland to be held on March 23rd and 25th.
This season marks Alabama’s 19th NCAA Tournament appearance (1975, 1976, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006). The Tide advanced to the Elite Eight in 2004. Alabama has advanced to the Sweet 16 eight times (1976, 1982, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1990, 1991, and 2004).
Ticket information for the NCAA Tournament will be released on Monday. Tide Pride and season ticket holders will have first priority. Times for first round games will be released on Monday.
