Alabama senior Crystal Rasmussen punched her ticket to the NCAA Championships on day one of the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships being held in Lexington, Ky. this weekend.
The NCAA Zone Diving Championships serve as the first round of competition for collegiate divers. There are five zones in action this weekend and 22 participants from Zone B (nine women and 13 men) will advance to the upcoming NCAA Championships.
Rasmussen finished second off the one-meter board, grabbing one of the automatic bids available from that event. She scored 566.60 points, finishing just behind South Carolina's Allison Brennan.
"Crystal has really been putting it together over the past couple of weeks," Alabama diving coach Pat Greenwell said. "She is really coming on strong as she finishes off her career."
Rasmussen finished second off the one-meter board at last month's Southeastern Conference Championships and fifth off the three-meter.
Junior Aaron Ashworth was sixth off the three-meter board, scoring a 603.60. He'll compete off the one-meter on Saturday. Ashworth was third off the three-meter board and the 10-meter platform at the SEC Championships.
The Championships continue Saturday at the Lancaster Aquatics Center with the men's 1-meter and the women's 3-meter events. The action begins at noon EST.
