Jeremy Hampton returns to his Alma Mater this season as he begins his first season as an assistant coach at the University of Alabama where he will instruct the Crimson Tide’s goalkeepers. Hampton graduated from the Capstone in May of 2002 with a BA in Arts & Sciences with a major in History and a minor in Political Sciences. During his college days Hampton was also the goalkeeper for the Crimson Tide Men’s Club team and since graduating he has pursued a career in coaching.
“As an alumnus of the University, it’s always been a dream of mine to coach at Alabama alongside Coach Don Staley,” Hampton said. “Every year that I’ve been involved in coaching I have tried to field the most competitive team possible and prepare them for anything that may come their way. I believe that I’ll be able to help accomplish this same thing at the Division I level.”
Hampton’s coaching career began in 1998 while still a student at Alabama. Hampton gave of his time to the Central, Tuscaloosa High School program where he served as an assistant coach until his graduation in 2002. During that time Central posted a 46-13-1 record and advanced to five consecutive state playoffs.
From there, Hampton earned his teaching certificate at the University of West Alabama in 2003 and in 2004 he took over as the head coach at Hattiesburg High School in Hattiesburg, Miss. Hampton spent one season there before making the move back to Tuscaloosa when he was named the head coach at Hillcrest High School.
“I’ve known Jeremy for several years,” Staley said, “and I’ve gotten to see him in action. I was impressed with what I saw this summer when he worked our camps. I felt like Jeremy could come in immediately and help our goalkeepers. He has shown to be a hard worker with a great work ethic and I’m excited to have him join our program.”
Hampton also holds a USSF State and Regional License and received his National C License in February 2006.
