One of two transfers from Navarro College, Jake McCarter will battle for time in the UA bullpen this season. He was a two-way player in junior college, but will concentrate solely on pitching here at Alabama. He has been drafted three times previously. A tough competitor, he was a JuCo teammate of UA outfielder Andrew Rodgers.
SUMMER (2005):
- Played a half season for the Cotuit Kettlers in the Cape Cod League for coach Mike Roberts
- In limited action, McCarter appeared in four games and compiled no record and a 3.72 ERA
- He worked 9 2/3 innings and allowed seven hits, seven runs and four earned runs, with five walks and seven strikeouts
- Played on same team as Alabama’s Emeel Salem and LSU’s Clay Dirks and Michael Hollander
NAVARRO JC (2004-05):
- Played two seasons at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas for coach Skip Johnson
- Compiled a 9-4 record and 2.80 ERA last season at Navarro
- Navarro won the Texas Eastern Athletic Conference championship during his freshman season
- Drafted in the 28th round by the New York Yankees (2004) and the 34th round by the Washington Nationals (2005)
PREP:
- A 2003 graduate of Tivy High School
- An all-state performer in both football and baseball as a prep senior
- Played baseball for coach Steve Rippee
- Drafted in the 40th round by the Cincinnati Reds (2003)
