The University of Alabama is currently at the NCAA national tournament in Austin, Texas. A member of the University of Alabama volleyball team will write a journal each day the team is in Austin. Today junior Megan Hudson talks about the second days activities.
Today started like no other day this year...with real pancakes! Now, you may be wondering what I am talking about, but for our brunch when we are on the road we usually have pancakes and they usually taste like rubber. Today was another story. The pancakes were big and fluffy.
After we ate brunch we watched film extensively to get a good feel for Stephen F. Austin. After film I took my usual cat nap of about thirty minutes and then got ready for practice. We could not touch a ball until exactly 1:30 pm because of the NCAA rules, so with our fifteen minutes to spare before practice Fet (Abbi Blackburn) entertained us with some dancing. Practice went very well. We scrimmaged, did some ball handling, and of course we served. After practice we took some snacks to go and got back on the bus to go back to the hotel. This part of the day really was not that interesting. Daisy and I went back to our room, showered, and hung out before it was time to go dinner.
We walked about a block to the restaurant and it was freezing. Well, it was cold for most people, but not Chi-town native Amy who was in flip-flops. After dinner we got a ride from the bus back to our hotel. Look at us...little princesses not wanting to walk in the cold. No...I am just kidding. We did not want anyone sick for the big games!
We were given the option to go see a movie or rent one in the room, so Liz (Elizabeth Salastrand), Rach (Rachael Green), and I decided to rent a movie in the room. First, when we were in the lobby, the three of us sat in these huge chairs with amazing ottomans listening to some live music. I love stuff like that! It was so romantic...too bad I was there with my two teammates and not a handsome fella...haha. (high five) Liz convinced the violin player to let her play. I never knew Liz had all of these talents. She was a cheerleader and now I find out she can play the violin too! I was amazed.
When the music was over we watched “Man of the Year”. It is a movie with Robin Williams as a comedian who runs for president. It was very good. I recommend it. The day really has not been that exciting, but it has been fun. Bad news though...I just got off the phone with my parents and they said that there are horrible storms in St. Louis and the airport is closed. They may not make it to the game tomorrow so I told them that we will win so they will get to see us play on Saturday! There is a little more of an incentive for me now...even though I do not think one is needed. I just want it to be tomorrow evening. I cannot wait to play ball.
