BATON ROUGE, La. ?? The University of Alabama volleyball team, coming off two exciting road games last weekend, fell in the opening road match of this weekend in three games to No. 11 LSU in Baton Rouge, La. The Tide dropped game scores of 30-22, 30-19 and 30-28 to fall to 15-11 on the season.
It was the LSU defense that told the tale of the match. The Tigers held Alabama to a .136 attack percentage on the night, including limiting the Tide to a .070 percentage in game one and an even .000 mark in the second frame.
As has been the case throughout most of the season, junior Crystal Hudson carried the Tide offensive attack on the evening. Hudson, who tallied her 1,000th career kill at Tennessee a week ago, added 18 more to her career total in the losing effort to the Tigers. The two-time SEC Player of the Week had 38 attempts and hit .342 for the evening.
Outside hitter Sarah Snider put down eight kills for the Tide, while middle blocker Rachael Green chipped in with seven. Setter Brigitte Slack posted 34 assists on the evening, while Snider recorded a match-high 18 digs for Alabama, setting a new season best in the process. Amy Pauly joined Snider in double figures in the dig category, as she recorded 13.
For LSU, Marina Skender tallied 19 kills and Kyna Washington had 10. The Tigers hit .285 for the match and posted five service aces on the night.
Alabama closes out its road schedule on Sunday, Nov. 12, when the Tide travels to Fayetteville, Ark., to face its longtime SEC West rival Arkansas before returning home for the final two matches of the regular season schedule.
