TUSCALOOSA ?? The Alabama women’s basketball team continued its ongoing efforts to serve and interact with the members of the Tuscaloosa community this week, as the players and coaches participated in two community service events.
On Tuesday, Oct. 3, the Tide players and coaching staff were on hand at Buhl Elementary School, where the team signed autographs, took pictures and even got in a little bit of dancing with students there. The school was holding its “Fitness Night” and the Alabama players were the guests of honor.
“I think it was fun for the girls and the kids both to interact a little bit and have some fun with the students,” director of basketball operations Ashley McElhiney said. “It made several of the kids’ nights to have our girls there having some fun with them.”
On Thursday, Oct. 5, the Tide signed autographs and greeted participants at the Crossing Points Organization’s charity golf tournament at Ol’ Colony Golf Course. The Crossing Points Organization is a charity organization dedicated to assisting individuals with mental disabilities from the ages of 18-21, teaching them real-world skills so that they might live independently.
“The patrons of Crossing Points were really happy and excited to see our kids, and I think that meant a lot to our players,” graduate assistant Ashley Earley said. “We had a great time and really appreciated the opportunity to assist Crossing Points in any way we could.”
The Tide women’s basketball team has been extremely active in the Tuscaloosa community already this summer, with plans to continue serving other members of the area throughout the fall and winter months.
