TUSCALOOSA ?? The accolades for the University of Alabama volleyball team continue to add up, as junior middle blocker Crystal Hudson was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week for the second time in the 2006 season.
“Crystal played perhaps her best volleyball of the season this past weekend,” said Tide head coach Judy Green. “She continues to get better with each week of practice and competition. Her work ethic and attitude have been exemplary over the past several weeks and it has certainly had a positive impact on our team’s performance.”
Hudson earned the honor by compiling 40 kills, an average of 5.71 per game, in a win over instate rival Auburn and a loss to No. 7 Florida in Tuscaloosa last weekend. She pounded 22 kills against the Tigers and added 18 versus the Gators and converted 56.9 percent of her attack attempts for the weekend.
The product of Hueytown leads the Tide this season with 222 kills, an average of 4.27 per game, while hitting .473 on the season to rank fourth in the SEC. She was named SEC Player of the Week and went on to earn the American Volleyball Coaches Association Player of the Week award for her efforts against Kentucky and Tennessee in mid-October.
Hudson, a health care management major at Alabama, has been named SEC Player of the Week three times in her career with the Tide.
