TUSCALOOSA ?? In addition to the other events scheduled as a part of Homecoming Week at the Capstone, the Crimson Tide women’s basketball team is slated to give fans an opportunity to preview the team at an intrasquad scrimmage in Coleman Coliseum at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27.
The scrimmage is scheduled to begin at about 7 p.m. and is open to all fans. It will be played under game-like conditions, with three officiated, 20-minute halves scheduled.
“This is an opportunity for our staff to get a glimpse of how our players react under game-like conditions,” head coach Stephany Smith said. “With seven rookies on our roster, working through all of the things that go along with playing in a game setting becomes even more important than a scrimmage of this type might normally be.”
Alabama prepares to enter the 2006-07 season, its second under Smith, next week. The Tide welcomes five returning players and seven newcomers to its roster this year.
The Crimson Tide opens the 2006-07 campaign on Tuesday, Oct. 31, with an exhibition game against West Alabama in Coleman Coliseum. Delta State is the opponent for the second and final exhibition contest on Nov. 5 in Tuscaloosa, with the regular season set to open against Samford on Nov. 10 in a 5 p.m. game.
