“They played hard, a little ragged, but your first scrimmage, a lot of times, you expect that,” said Gottfried whose Alabama team officially opened practice for the 2006-07 season on Friday, October 13. “I did like our effort, but I think also, we realize that we have a long way to go. That’s why we’re practicing everyday.”
Gottfried said it was a typical first week scrimmage.
“I don’t think anyone today particularly stood out,” said Gottfried. “I think the older players are doing what we expect and the younger players looked about what we expected them to look. But it’s the first time with officials, which is good. It gives them a feel for running things in some game situations. We’ll have another scrimmage next Friday, so we’ll get a good gauge then.”
The team will be off from practice Saturday and Sunday and will return to the court and classes on Monday. Students at the University had fall break, with no classes, on Thursday and Friday.
