Tide Volleyball Competing at Wisconsin-Milwaukee Invitational

The Alabama volleyball team (5-1) travels to Milwaukee, Wis. this weekend to compete in the UWM Invitational. Alabama comes into the tournament riding a five match winning streak with its latest win coming in 3-0 at South Alabama Tuesday night.
The tournament marks the first time UA has faced Northern Iowa and host UW-Milwaukee. The Tide is 0-1 against the tourney's third team, Toledo, falling to the Rockets 3-0 in 1990.
SEC player of the Week Kelley Potter leads the way for UA. The senior is ranked third in the nation with a .600 hitting percentage. Also controlling the offense for Alabama is Brigitte Slack who has led Alabama to the No. 5 spot nationally in the assists per game category (team ave) with a 14.56 average of her own. Defensively, senior libero Jessica Yearout paces the Tide, averaging 4.22 digs per game.
Toledo comes into the tournament sporting a 3-2 record and is led by defensive standout Lora Sarich who is averaging 4.74 digs per game. As a team the Rockets are averaging 17.9 digs. Toledo took two of three matches last weekend, defeating UC-Davis and Idaho St. while falling to Washington St. Northern Iowa is 4-2 on the year, including a 1-1 mark against Top 25 schools having defeated then No. 22 Colorado State and falling to then No. 25 Pepperdine. The Panthers have a balanced attack offensively with Laura Rowen leading the way. Host school UWM is 4-2 this season. The Panthers are led by Melissa Lange who leads her squad in both hitting percentage and assists. Wisconsin-Milwaukee went 3-1 last weekend, falling to Mississippi State 3-1.
The Tide competes against Toledo on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and against Northern Iowa and UW-Milwaukee on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. respectively. Live stats for the tournament will be available at www.rolltide.com.
