The Alabama volleyball team ran its current win streak up to five matches tonight after making short work of in-state rival South Alabama in Mobile by a score of 3-0.
The Crimson Tide kept things well under control, winning 30-22, 30-21, 30-24. The Tide has now won 15 straight games on the way to its five wins on the season.
Freshman Sarah Snider and sophomore Bridget Fuentez both racked up double digit kill totals, tallying 13 and 12 respectively. Sophomore Brigitte Slack totaled 44 assists, while she and Snider both had nine digs, leading the match in both categories. Slack also posted the best attack percentage, hitting .750 for the match.
“We played a much improved South Alabama team tonight," Alabama head coach Judy Green said. "And while we came out a little flat, but that’s probably to be expected coming off such a big weekend. But any time you hit 40 percent you can’t really complain too much. But I would like to see a little more crisp the next time out.”
"Abbi Blackburn got her first full match tonight and I thought she had a good night," Green said. "Also Lindsey Buteyn played a lot more tonight and had a good match."
Blackburn and Buteyn both had seven kills and four block assists. Their four block assists led the match.
Alabama has not lost to South Alabama since 1989 and they hold a 24-4 all-time series lead over the Jaguars. The Tide has also won 23 consecutive contests against all in-state opponents dating back to the 1999 season.
Alabama remains on the road for its next competition, traveling to Milwaukee, Wis. this weekend to compete in the UWM Invitational.
