The curtains opened on the 10th Anniversary of Alabama softball today as the Crimson Tide opened its fall season at the UA Softball Complex.
It was almost like an orientation as the team unveiled eight new faces giving the Tide its largest roster ever at 19; however head coach Patrick Murphy was pleased with what he saw out of his rookies and is looking forward to such a large group.
“All the freshmen looked really good,” said Murphy. “The new people did especially well considering it was their first practice. I thought the whole team worked really hard and did a good job of ‘time on task’. Competition in practice is going to be the best ever and I’ll be confident in with whoever plays what position.”
The team jumped right into it, working on nearly every facet of the game. The infielders and outfielders worked on hitting, with Allison Moore becoming the first freshman to hit a home run, a shot off the elephant on the top of the scoreboard in left centerfield. The catchers worked on catching drills and the pitchers did their share of work in the bullpen.
Specifically, the infielders worked on fundamental footwork and pre-pitch work among other things.
The team will continue its workouts tomorrow at 2:00.
