The University of Alabama men’s and women’s tennis programs will host a Hurricane Katrina Relief Tournament, in conjunction with the Alabama Tennis “Play Day”, on Sunday, September 11, 2005 at the Alabama Varsity Tennis Complex. All proceeds will go towards relief efforts for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The tournament will begin at 2 p.m. following the conclusion of the “Play Day”, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. All ages and skill levels are invited to participate in both events. The tournament will follow a round-robin format and registration is free, although donations will be accepted.
“We believe this is a great way for us to help raise money for all the victims of this recent tragedy,” Alabama assistant women’s coach Eduardo Rincon said. “We encourage the entire tennis community to join in for a great cause. This event isn’t about tennis, but about helping those who need our help.”
“Both tennis teams see this as an opportunity to help those who have gone through a life-changing event,” head men’s coach Billy Pate said. “We are happy to lend a helping hand and to do everything we can to improve the situation.”
