The Alabama volleyball team travels to Lawrence, Kansas to open its season, playing Kansas and Missouri-Kansas City over the weekend. The Crimson Tide looks to continue its winning trend in season openers. Alabama is 18-6 all-time in the first match of the season and is 6-3 under head coach Judy Green.
First serve for Friday's match is set for 7:00 p.m. Saturday's match will begin at noon. Live stats for the Friday night matchup with KU can be followed at www.rolltide.com.
Alabama comes into 2005 seeking its seventh consecutive winning season. The Tide is younger team this season with only two seniors and nine underclassmen.
Alabama will rely on 2004 All-SEC Freshman team honoree Brigitte Slack offensively to get them off to a fast start. Slack set a new school record during her freshman campaign with a 12.85 assist per game average, and with only one season under her belt, she's already in seventh place in career assists.
The Tide will also count on the defensive talent of its libero Jessica Yearout. Green, in her 10th season with the Tide, looks for Yearout to setup the Tide's offense with her defense.
Kansas is coming off a 19-12 season that saw them advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament. The UMKC Kangaroos are an experienced team that returns 10 letterwinners from last season while losing only one.
