With almost two weeks of practice under their belt, the University of Alabama volleyball team will play its annual Crimson vs. White game Sunday afternoon in the CAVE.
Crimson Tide head coach Judy Green is looking forward to seeing her team in a game like situation with the first match of the 2005 season only a week away.
“We want to put them in a situation where they get to put on their uniforms and get into as close to a match situation as possible,” Green said. “We want to see how we handle a true game like situation with people watching and with an official on the stand.”
Competition for playing time so far has been tight in practice for several positions and Green has been pleased with how the team has performed so far.
“I think we are still trying to settle on a couple of positions,” Green said. It’s been very competitive in practice. We hope this scrimmage will help to determine who will play for us. I like how we have approached playing defense as a team. I like our tenacity and the way we step in and dig. I also like how we have been serving the ball as a team. One of our goals is to be the best serving team in the league, and we have a variety of servers that we want to take advantage of.”
First serve of the match is set for 1:30 p.m. There is no admission charge and fans are invited to attend.
