EDITOR'S NOTES: This is the 10th in a series of daily journals written by Crimson Tide volleyball players. The journals will give a first-hand account of their experiences as they prepare for the 2005 season, and give an inside look at Alabama Volleyball.
----------------
Practice began today with a game we learned from players at UNC. It consisted of 2 vs 2, where you catch and throw the ball with only two steps permitted per each catch to throw. The only other rule was that you were required to talk trash when you were on the court. Regrettably, Coach Chris could not finish the drill after receiving a hard hit...just kidding, it was more like he was dishing out the hits and I was taking the blows. Be ready Chris, I’m aiming for you next time! After some positional work and defensive drills, we finished off practice with a 3-C drill, which is probably one of my favorite drills thus far! The game was to 30 with bonus points for communication, coverage, and celebrating after the play. We rocked through the drill and finished practice on a positive note.
After practice, we met back in the CAVE with family photos and stories to tell. For the next hour, we circled up and passed around photos of parents, grandparents, friends, pets, and for Jessica Yearout, a map of Idaho. I learned why Brooks has an ‘s’ at the end of her name, and that everyone’s name in Bridget Fuentez’s family (including the dog) begins with the letter ‘b’. Overall I felt that it was a great chance for us all to learn a bit more about each other.
Since we had the evening session off today, the thugs (aka Brooks, Crystal, Lindsey, and I) and our honorary ‘thug of the day’ (Kelley Potter) hit the mall for a late lunch and shopping. Afterwards, Kelley and I came back to our new apartment and zoned into the TV for the evening. Although today was a short day of practice, my body is feeling the effects of an intense week in the gym. But no worries, tomorrow morning, 13 other volleytiders and I will be ready to ‘bring it’ to the gym. As Mr. Wright once said “I know the price of success: dedication, hard work, and an unremitting devotion to the things you want to see happen.” Come see what’s happening with the Tide this season, it’s guaranteed to be like no other!
Until later,
ROLL TIDE ROLL!!
