EDITOR'S NOTES: This is the ninth in a series of daily journals written by Crimson Tide volleyball players. The journals will give a first-hand account of their experiences as they prepare for the 2005 season, and give an inside look at Alabama Volleyball.

So...where to start? Um, how about the beginning...that’s always a good place. You know, just so I don’t forget anything of course! And what’s a better thing to start off the daily journal with than our thought of the day. “Life is so amazing! Even though there will be times when you think you can’t go any further and you’re about to break down, if you just hold on a little bit longer incredible things can, do and will happen for you. So don’t ever give up and always go that extra mile.”
I think that this thought applies to us not only today, but everyday from here on out. This team is dedicated to becoming better every time we leave the gym and we won’t stop until we’re satisfied. Literally. And in order to achieve this goal, of course we have to practice, practice, and practice some more. Another one of my favorite quotes is that “Practice doesn’t make perfect, it makes permanent.” So with that in mind we got started on improving our skills (because you know guys only like girls with great skills, like setting skills, dig and drop skills, hitting skills, and serving skills....just for you Erich!!)
Our focus for both practices today was centered on passing and our sideout offense, both which are coming along quite well at the moment, if I do say so myself. Random question, I know, but who let the dogs out?? Well we did of course! And don’t worry this all ties together with us working to improve our backrow attack. Well, maybe I should explain that a little better, because I know if I was reading this and didn’t really play volleyball, I would have NO CLUE what I was just talking about.
So here goes nothing and try to stay with me, because if I lose you, I have no way of telling!! You’ll have one side of the net which is designated the “dog house” side and in order to get to the winning side, you have to get a backrow kill. Once you get a kill from the backrow then your team goes under, and it’s only then you can start scoring points. First team to eleven wins. Alright, so that wasn’t that hard to follow was it?? I hope not, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed just in case!
We did a little more positional training and worked some more on our backrow attacks before we headed into six vs. six competition for the remainder of our evening session. Then it was off to weights with Jesper and treatment afterwards and it’s only after that, that ladies and gentlemen we get to call it a night. Oh and a big shout out to Amy Pauly who had a great practice today! And to all our other ESPN’s!!! You know I love you....
When it’s all said and done, I think we did get better today, in more ways then one. Our communication improved along with our passing and just relationships with each other as teammates as well. All I know is that I can’t wait to get this season started and I just hope that all of you reading this are just as pumped as me. Because if you are, well then we have nothing to worry about!! Until next time...
