EDITOR'S NOTE: Alabama junior defender Emily Pitek will give her account of the Crimson Tide’s pre-season work in her diary each day leading up to the beginning of the season.
------------------------------
Today the team ran through some plays,
Standing outside in the sun's rays.
For two hours we listened and learned,
Goals are what we shall earn.
We worked on corners and set kicks,
Alabama Soccer sure has some tricks!
We showed great focus at the task at hand,
While enjoying the music from the Million Dollar Band.
We worked on offense and defense and the midfield, too,
We learned so much it would make your face turn blue!
It was all done in under two hours,
Having not ran at all, we were still sweaty and in need of showers.
It was a good thing we did not run,
Because a heat index of 120 is not very fun!
Coach was impressed at our dedication.
He was so proud his voice was imbued with celebration!
After a short little break we were together again,
This time to wait for our scrimmage to begin.
Before we went out, Bob Baumhauer gave us a shout,
He showed us a picture of coach catching a fish, but it wasn't a trout!
I actually was able to get in and run around,
It was great, I put a few of my teammates on the ground.
Six goals were scored in the first half,
All that work put a strain on my calf.
A short break and then some more game,
This year our team will garner great fame.
We will do well in the SEC,
Come out to our games and you will see,
That we may be underrated but everyone will soon know,
That Crimson Tide Soccer has places to go!
Until later,
Emily Pitek
ROLL TIDE!
