Wow! I hardly know where to start! We had such a great practice today!! Most of us arrived around 5:00, and took the court at 5:45. After he saw a slow start to warm-ups, Coach Hinterstocker got us into a competitive mood that we carried into practice. Today’s emphasis was on serve receive and defensive techniques, a.k.a. lots of passing and digging! All of us (the thug club too!!) got a lot of reps in and pushed ourselves to use the correct technique. We also got to work on good communication when we did a partner passing drill. After defense, we kept the competitive spirit alive with a 21-point serving challenge. A big shout-out to Abbi here!! She was totally on her serving game today!!! Following serving came (guess!) that’s right—more defense! To end practice we were all psyched to play 6 vs. 6. Everyone did a fantastic job of communicating and being all-out competitive.
Waiting for us after practice was the cold tank. For those who don’t know, this is a very special part of our day where we all get into practically freezing water for 10 minutes. This act of craziness helps your muscles after a long practice and keeps you from being sore the next day. It is really cold at first, but after a few minutes you cannot feel your legs anymore and its ok. Plus, with our team, there is always an interesting and typically very funny conversation going on to distract you from the coldness!
Overall, I would say that today we really focused on the “thought of the day,” which was “One finger cannot lift a pebble.” It takes a whole team to get anywhere, and that is exactly what is happening with this group of girls. We are becoming a selfless and focused team that I know will go far this season!! As for the “Fab Five” (or the freshmen...preferably the “Fab Five”) we are getting better everyday and enjoying every minute of it!! I can’t wait for the season to start; 16 days until our first match! Come see us play at the CAVE, because we are “so doin’ it!!!!!”
Roll Tide Roll!!!!!
