UA's Darby Sligh Named Head Coach at Newberry College

Former University of Alabama women’s golfer Darby Sligh has been named Head Women’s Golf Coach at Newberry College. Sligh, who is from North Augusta, South Carolina, will take over the program which is located in Newberry, South Carolina.
Newberry College is a Division Two school and is a member of the South Atlantic Conference.
“I’m very excited about the opportunity to coach here at Newberry," Sligh said. "I feel like, with the returning team, we have a good chance to win the conference title and advance to regionals. I can’t wait to get the season started.”
Sligh was a member of the University of Alabama Women’s Golf Team from 2001-2005. She was a 2nd team All-Southeastern Conference selection as a Junior. In her career, she had nine top 10 finishes. She was medalist at Alabama’s home tournament, The UA-Ann Rhodes Intercollegiate, as well as the Ross Resorts Invitational.
She was named SEC Women’s Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2004. Three times she was named to the National Golf Coaches’ Association All-American Scholar Team. While at the Capstone, she was a representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Board.
