The Alabama women’s track and field team grabbed its highest national finish since 2000, finishing 13th in the NCAA Outdoor Championships held in Hornet Stadium at Sacramento State.
The Crimson Tide amassed 18 points off the individual finishes of juniors Beth Mallory and Tahesia Harrigan. Texas came away with the team title while UCLA and South Carolina tied for second. Alabama also finished 13th in 2000 with its highest finish before that coming in 1994 when they took 12th.
Mallory, who won the NCAA discus title on Friday, added a fourth place finish in the hammer throw on Saturday. She posted a throw of 207 feet, three inches on her first effort in finals and that would prove enough to take fourth. She earned All-American honors in both events, giving her five career honors. Last year the Ashland, Ohio native was second in the discus and seventh in the hammer.
Harrigan took sixth in the 100m dash with an 11.42 on Friday, scoring and earning All-American honors in the process. She was 15th in the 200m dash on Thursday. Junior Aymara Albury took 17th in the shot put on Thursday while senior Chafree Bain was 26th in the discus on Wednesday.
