Bama Closes Out Home Diamond Slate With Arkansas

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The No. 13 University of Alabama baseball team continues its quest for the 2005 Southeastern Conference Western Division championship as it wraps up its home schedule with a three-game series against the No. 18 Arkansas Razorbacks this wekeend in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama (34-16, 14-10 SEC) enters its final home series in a first-place tie with LSU in the SEC Western Division standings. Bama is 1 1/2 games back of league-leading Tennessee and one game back of second-place Florida. LSU hosts SEC-leader Tennessee this weekend in Baton Rouge. Florida is at home against Miss. State.
"We are excited about the upcoming weekend and really need the support of our many loyal fans," Alabama head coach Jim Wells said. "Arkansas is a very good team and our team needs three big crowds this weekend as we play another very tough SEC series."
The series finale is set for 11 a.m., a start time mandated by the league office due to Arkansas' travel schedule. Due to the inconvenience of the early start time, the University of Alabama is offering all fans with a ticket to Sunday's game a free hot dog, small drink and small box of popcorn. Ticket stubs can be redeemed at all concessions stands for fans wishing to take advanatge of this offer.
In addition, all tickets to Sunday's game will be $3 as another way for the Crimson Tide to show its appreciation to its fans for the support this season.
The teams will meet in game two of this three-game series at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 14. The Crimson Tide will host is annual "Senior Day" festivities on Saturday begining at approximately 3:40 p.m.
Alabama has seven seniors who will be playing their final regular-season home games at the Joe this weekend. The 2005 Alabama baseball senior class includes left-hand pitcher Brent Carter (Americus, Ga.), outfielder Matt Grooms (Montgomery), designated hitter Allen Rice (Helena), infielder Rocky Scelfo (Youngsville, La.), left fielder Gabe Scott (Lake Charles, La.), right fielder Morrow Thomley (Tuscaloosa) and first baseman Zac Welch (Wellington).
The Crimson Tide and Razorbacks will play this crucial three-game SEC series beginning with the series opener on Friday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m.
