Alabama junior Beth Mallory won the hammer throw on day one of the NCAA MidEast Regional Championships held in Bloomington, Ind. this weekend.
Mallory posted a throw of 203 feet and seven inches, bettering her nearest competitor by more than three feet. The Ashland, Ohio native automatically advances to the NCAA Championships with her throw.
“It feels great. I didn’t have my best performance and I didn’t do what I wanted to do. It just feels good to win,” Mallory said. “It’s a real good confidence booster heading into nationals and I am just looking to do my best.”
Mallory will compete in the shot put and discus tomorrow. Junior Aymara Albury is the top seed in the shot put while Mallory is the top seed in the discus.
Inclement weather ended the meet early, with action picking up tomorrow, weather permitting. Mallory’s win puts the Crimson Tide in third place after day one. The meet finishes off on Saturday.
