After Rain Delays, NCAA Regional 1st Round Finally Completed

KINGSTON SPRINGS, TENN. - The University of Alabama is in sixth place at the NCAA Men's Golf East Regional after one round completed.
The tournament has already undergone two rain delays, the first for two hours late Thursday afternoon, a delay which caused six teams to be left stranded without finishing play as darkness descended and halted first round play. Those teams were to resume first round play at 7 a.m. Friday morning and finish that round out before jumping into the second round only to be met by another weather delay Friday morning, this one for an hour and nine minutes.
First round play was finally completed before 10 a.m. CT Friday, and the second round is underway. Now that all scores are in, standings after one round find Wake Forest leading the field of 27 teams at thirteen under par after carding 271. Nine teams, including Alabama, finished under par. Alabama is four under (280). The standings find Georgia in second (275), followed by North Carolina (276), Central Florida (278), Georgia State (279), Alabama (280), Georgia Southern and East Tennessee State 9281), Tennessee (282), Coastal Carolina (284), Georgia Tech, Clemson and Louisville in a three-way tie at 11th (285), Florida and Duke (287), Virginia (290), Charlotte (291), Penn State and Towson University (293), Indiana (294), North Carolina Wilmington and Army (298), Vanderbilt (301), Maryland (304), Rutgers (306), Rhode Island (309), and Boston College (318).
Two men shared the first round lead, Coastal Carolina's Dustin Johnson and Wake Forest's Kyle Reifers, both at six under after stroking 65.
Mark Harrell had Alabama's best opening round. He's at three under par after carding 68 on the par 71 course at the Golf Club of Tennessee. Joseph Sykora is T-20th at two under, 69. At even par is Gator Todd after carding 71 which placed him T-36th. Clint Provost shot 72 and at one over par is T-53rd. And Thomas Hagler is T-97th after shooting five over, 76.
The tournament continues through Saturday.
