The 11th ranked Alabama softball team (40-9) will take a break from conference action for a night and take on the Belmont Bruins in a single game in Huntsville, Alabama.
Alabama has recorded a 27-4 record against non-conference opponents this year as well as 8-3 slate at neutral sites.
There's not much history between the Tide and the Bruins in softball as they've only met two times before. Alabama swept the doubleheader back in 1998 winning by in five-innings in both games, 9-0 and 9-1.
Actually the date April 5 might possibly bear a little more significance for the Alabama softball program. Of the 11 grand slams in program history, three of them have fallen on the date April 5 throughout the years and all three have been against the Ole Miss Rebels.
Alabama comes into the game off a series victory over SEC West rival Ole Miss, taking two of three games from the Rebels. The Crimson Tide has won eight of its last 10 games.
Belmont on the other hand is currently riding a five-game losing streak, including dropping back to back doubleheaders to Atlantic Sun conference rivals Florida Atlantic and Central Florida.
The Crimson Tide and the Bruins share only one common opponent in the Kentucky Wildcats. Alabama swept a season series against the Cats 10-2 (5), 6-2 and 5-1 while Belmont fell to Kentucky by scores of 14-1 (5) and 10-3.
Tuesday's game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Huntsville Metro Kiwanis Softball Sportsplex. Fans can tune into the action at www.rolltide.com where live audio will be available. In the Tuscaloosa area, all the balls and strikes can be heard via Chad Anderson on 90.7 FM WVUA.
