TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Lanny S. Vines, a prominent Birmingham attorney, has pledged $300,000 to support the Crimson Tide Foundation and the Crimson Tradition Fund campaign. The gift will be made in honor of Vines' longtime friend, Birmingham businessman Frank Bromberg III.
The Crimson Tradition Fund campaign is a $100 million fund-raising campaign benefiting The University of Alabama's athletic facility improvements.
Vines has been a longtime supporter of Crimson Tide Athletics and wanted to show his support by honoring his friend Frank Bromberg, III, a former Crimson Tide track and field athlete. Bromberg graduated from the Capstone in 1978.
The Bromberg family has long been associated with The University, as Frank Bromberg Jr. served as a member of The University's Board of Trustees.
In celebrating the gift and the success of the Crimson Tradition Fund campaign, Vines hosted an exclusive reception at his home on April 29. At this reception, Frank Bromberg III presented Athletics Director Mal Moore an exclusive Bromberg Jewelers "University of Alabama National Championship Crystal Trophy."
The trophy, limited in production to twenty, is constructed of a hand-cut Waterford Crystal football adorned by two hand-cut Waterford crystal elephants, resting on a walnut base. Each of the trophies will also include two engraved sterling silver plates, one listing the twelve football national championship years and one illustrating the classic Minerva of the original seal of The University of Alabama. Each trophy will sell for $31,000 with $25,000 directly benefiting the Crimson Tradition Fund campaign.
Funds from the Crimson Tradition Fund campaign are targeted for the many enhancement projects impacting athletic facilities. Included in the projects are renovation of Paul W. Bryant Hall into an academic support center for student athletes; an expansion of the football complex to include a new weight room, revitalized dressing rooms, squad room and recruiting center; new turf for the Hank Crisp Indoor Practice Area; modernization of Coleman Coliseum, including a new lobby, coaches' offices and concourse and seating areas; new tennis and soccer complexes and expansion of the north end zone of Bryant-Denny Stadium.
