The Wildcats won eight of nine matches played, including all three doubles matches and five of six singles matches. The loss dropped Alabama to 7-12 overall and 0-8 in the SEC.
Joseph Jung claimed his 17th win of the season by defeating Matt Emery. Jung won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles to up his record to 17-12 on the season, 4-4 in the SEC. Jung was 2-0 this weekend.
Alabama made things difficult on itself early in the match by losing the doubles point for the eighth time in its last 10 matches. The Tide wasn’t able to recover in singles to make up for the early deficit and fell to 1-10 this season when losing the doubles point.
Luigi D’Agord and Eric Molnar pushed the sixth ranked doubles team of Tigran Mirtirosyan and Jesse Witten to the limit. D’Agord and Molnar led late in the match but Mirtirosyan and Witten showed why they are ranked so high and found a way to battle back for the 9-7 victory.
Alabama will hit the road next weekend for another pair of SEC matches, this time against Arkansas and LSU.
